February 27 Duck Race to Benefit C’mon
NAPLES, Fla. – Plans are going swimmingly for the 2010 Great Venetian Duck Race at The Village on Venetian Bay. On Feb. 27, 10,000 small yellow “adopted” rubber ducks will be dropped into Venetian Bay to race to the finish line. Top placing lucky ducks will win thousands of dollars worth of prizes. Ducks are $10 each and may be purchased online at www.naples.com/duckrace. All proceeds will benefit the Children’s Museum of Naples.
The day of family fun is free to watch, open to the public and will feature contests and prizes for children, including a best dressed duckling contest and children’s activities. Eight bands playing a variety of music from rock to reggae will also be performing all day on both sides of the village. The “duck drop” will be at 1 p.m.
“The 2009 Duck Race raised $87,000 for the Children’s Museum of Naples,” said Joe Cox, the museum’s executive director. “The 2010 goal is $150,000!”
The Great Venetian Duck Race will benefit the Children’s Museum of Naples, Collier County’s first learning environment devoted exclusively to child’s play, the serious business of discovery that helps children attain hallmark milestones on the journey into adulthood. Construction is under way on a two-acre site in North Collier Regional Park, on Livingston Road south of Immokalee Road. The completed facility will be a LEED-certified green building, fully accessible to all children regardless of their physical or learning abilities.
Scheduled to open in early 2011, C’mon will provide a well-rounded universe of 13 exhibits and programs that will lead children and their families on a journey from the swamps of the Everglades to the outer reaches of the galaxy and from an experience at a working farm to a day at the beach.
